Sorry for the lack of posting yesterday - lots of classwork and a DJ gig last night... didnt have any free time!
As I mentioned before, as a Director of a radio station, I get sent to me demo CDs of artists hoping to get some airplay. More often than not, I get complete crap that's laughable at best. I figure I'll share these with you ever Friday from here on out!
As you can see by the picture, this band (The Artists name is "The Sky Does Not Care About Me) is one of my worst. The CD they gave to me has no cover at - it is simply drawn on by magic marker. The music isn't much better - sounds like 2 machines having sex... take a listen if you can handle it...

Seriously... what the hell were they thinking?
Hope that made up for the lack of posting on Thursday... I plan on taking weekends off... so Ill see ya Monday

Go Betty Go
I originally found this band off of the soundtrack to the video game "Burnout 3: Takedown". They're now one of my favorites!
Led by singer Emily Wynne-Hughes, Go Betty Go features an all chick-lineup... kind of rare in alternative rock these days. Not a whole lot of back story behind them - they're based out in Phoenix, and occasionally dabble below the border to incorporate Spanish into a few of their tracks. As of now, they have 2 albums out - "Nothing is More" and "Worst Enemy". All in all I feel the tracks are fairly hit or miss, but the ones that hit are without a doubt some of my favorites!
Some tracks to try:
"C'Mon"
"The Pirate Song"
"Donde Voy"
Fun fact as well - singer Emily Hughes tried out for season 8 of American Idol... she made it through to Hollywood, causing a ton of turn-up with the bandmates, as they had to skip a European Tour... probably the reason why we haven't heard from them in a while... but I'll keep my hopes up!

Vedera
Switching over to a little more unknown Alternative - we turn our attention to the band Vedera.
Led by singer Kristen May, the band grew up in the same town of Blue Springs. Inspired by artists such as Jimmy Paige, Nirvana and Stone Temple Pilots, most of the band members started playing at a young age. May has been writing songs since she was 17. After a failed college stint in Nashville, May returned to her Kansas City roots and formed the band as we know it today.
They currently have 3 albums out -2004's "This Broken City" 2005's "The Weight of an Empty Room", and 2009's "Stages". Their top hit to check out is "Satisfy", which has currently been all over MTVU as of late.
My co-host has actually played poker with May a few years back. She has a really beautiful voice, but he says she smokes like a chimney... hopefully she has come to her senses by now.
Be sure to check them out if your looking for some (somewhat) undiscovered alternative!

Blink-182
I'll begin this adventure by knocking out a few of my mainstream favorites - We'll start with the cult classic blink-182
Formed in 1992 - blink-182 is comprised of Vocalist/guitarist Tom DeLonge, Drummer Travis Barker and bassist Mark Hopper. Tom was expelled from his former high school after showing up drunk to a basketball game, and was thus introduced to Mark at his new high school. Sharing the desire to start a band, they hired Scott Raynor as their initial drummer. These 3 went on to produce two albums: Cheshire Cat and Dude Ranch.
The success of Dude Ranch allowed blink to take multiple worldwide tours. In 1998, mid-tour, drummer Scott Raynor was asked to leave the band due to alcoholism, and was replaced by then-Aquabat Drummer Travis Barker. The new trio went on to record their breakthrough album - Enema of the State.
The next few years rolled for blink-182, as they produced such hits as "Adam's Song", "All the Small Things" and "The Rock Show" just to name a few. After their fourth album "Take Off Your Pants and Jacket", the band split in 2005 for creative differences.
In 2008, Barker barely survived a plane crash, and the trio was re-united in the hospital, where they had time to overcome their differences. Today, blink-182 is back, and are currently working on their new album.
I was lucky enough to catch these guys back in 2009 in their reunion tour - and trust me. They're back.
Heres a few tracks you should try out:
Going Away To College
Please Take Me Home
Down
The Party Song
All of their stuff is worth a listen... if you haven't heard their earlier stuff... check it oUT!
Im out for now... tune in tomorrow!

Blog Purpose
Hello readers!
As the title suggests, this blog will feature information about a new alternative rock band every day (at least I hope, sometimes I may miss a few days). I am the alternative music director at my local radio station, and am always getting new demos from unsigned bands that really deserve a listen. I hope to combine those with a lot of popular mainstream artists, and give you all a bit of background on the bands that supply some of your favorite music!
Occasionally (more often than not), I also receive demo CD's of the worst possible music you could ever imagine. On certain days (maybe I'll dedicate a day or two a week to this) I'll post some of that music, so we can all laugh at their fruitless attempts.
The action will start tomorrow... ta ta for now!
